New Bay View Conservatory Open Day |
|
An £80,000 Conservatory has been unveiled at the Victorian House Hotel Eden Lodge.
The stunning glass rich restaurant provides panoraminc views of Morecambe Bay and the beautiful grounds of the hotel, allowing the diners to feel they are almost eating out doors. To compliment this, the glasswork is set on stone and the decor chosen to reflect colours taken from nature.
A natural stone wall remains in situ, offset by wall mounted chandeliers and solid oak tables. General Manager Michael Holden said "Its all in keeping with the natural tranquil feeling througout the hotel. It bringing the outside in - the views and the colours. We had a wonderful opening day on Sunday November 14, when the conservatory was much admired."
Built by Andy Yool and furnished by Stollers, both of Barrow, the Eden Lodge Conservatory features decking with eight tables for dinning or drinking, seating around 26 at a time.
The Conservatory comes with new Menus. Diners can enjoy Sandwich or Light Snacks at Lunchtime starting at £4.95. One, two or three courses are served during the day starting at £12.95.

At Eden Lodge we are taking a very active interest in community affairs and in the promotion of local talent. It is therefore our intention to open up the space of Eden Lodge to local artists whose art we believe blends perfectly into the harmonious and uplifting environment of Eden Lodge and lives up to similar high standards.
It is our firm belief that by giving local and talented artists the opportunity to display their work at such a beautiful venue as Eden Lodge, they can make their work more accessible to a wider audience, which will hopefully enjoy their work to such a degree that they may even want to purchase the odd piece.
A perfect example of our philosophy is Sue and Keith Johnson. Sue and Keith, known to many as SKAND for their computing business, now combine their interests in software and photography with digital imaging to produce limited edition fractal artwork. As far as we can see their art is very innovative and simply beautiful. But hopefully, you will be able to judge for yourself.
This is what Sue and Keith have to say for themselves and their images:
“Presentation is of course very important. Conventional print and frame is one option and we use a good quality local framing company. But because our work is contemporary in style we wanted a different way to show off our work which would be in keeping with Eden Lodge’s ethos of ‘beyond expectation’. “
“Working with a supportive processing house we experimented with other media. Our work can now be presented as an MDF block mount print, printed using archival inks designed to last in excess of 75 years and finished with a UV protective coating. This gives visual impact and a presentation that looks contemporary particularly when fixed to the wall in a ‘float’ style.”
Keith Johnson
“My career has taken me from accountancy to computing but my hobby and passion has always been photography. With a fascination for mathematics I explored fractals many years ago but it was only recently that I realised their potential in an artistic way.”
“I focus on flame fractals manipulating the algorithms before rendering them as images to be processed. I am mindful of colour and form aspiring to produce images that are aesthetically pleasing with an air of peace and tranquillity.”
Sue Johnson
I describe my work as photo fractal art and maybe this is a new art form? If not new it is certainly different, contemporary and visually intense. I start with a very simple digital image often captured when walking in the countryside around the villages and shores of the South Lakeland area. Wild flowers and hedgerow plants are my inspiration. Selected for a combination of colour and form my simple image, often just a flower from a larger scene, is the base for my work. I take this image and use it to create a riot of colour in multiple layers using fractal software and a combination of digital software techniques.”
“My childhood was spent near Conishead Priory now the Manjushri Center and I used to catch the school bus within sight of what is now Eden Lodge. So it was with a feeling of nostalgia that I first ventured into the grounds of Eden Lodge to meet Ernst and I then started to understand what was being created.”

Lodge at Eden for Fine Diners |
|
Stylish and elegant is the only way to describe Eden Lodge Country House Hotel.
Set in four acres of semi formal gardens, with magnificent views over Morecambe Bay and the Manjushri Temple, this is the Place to be for Mothering Sunday.
The menu with a blend of traditional British with European and Asian influences is just £16.95 for three courses, including coffee.
Why not start with potted king prawns with ginger butter or even chicken liver and brandy pate followed by roast rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding finished off with sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and cinder toffee ice cream.
Head Chef Chris Powell's menus are a blend of ideas from old and new alike with his experience in Spain and Canada giving in plenty to draw on.
If you cannot make it for sunday lunch, try the midweek lunch served Monday - Saturday 12.30 - 2.30 pm. This is a much lighter affair, with homemade soups, sandwiches, wraps, platters, salad bowls and a sprinkling of hot dishes.
If lunch is not your thing then maybe Afternoon Tea - served between 2.30 and 4.30pm Monday - Saturday and starting at just £4.95 per person.
There is much more to Eden Lodge besides the excellent food and magnificent views across Morecambe Bay; 10 bedrooms which would rival any boutique hotel, starting at £75 per room (bed and breakfast) or £95, including dinner - not forgetting the therapies and treatments available seven days a week.
Why not treat yourself or someone your love to a treatment or gift voucher for Mother's Day. Aromatherapy massage, hot stones treatment, reflexology, sports injury massage and many more treatments are available to help your relax and revitalise.
If this has whetted your appetite then call in for a glass of wine, chilled beer or just a coffee in the lounge or bar area.

North West Evening Mail: Open day success for Furness’ newest hotel Tuesday, 19 May 2009
THE newest hotel in Furness was inspected by hundreds of people after it was officially opened at the weekend. Eden Lodge, at Bardsea, is owned by Ernst Liehr, a German with a passion for the Lake District and its hinterlands. Mr Liehr, who lives in London, was present when the hotel was formally opened on Saturday by Ulverston estate agent and traders’ representative Ralph Spours. Businessman Paul Arnold, who has been helping to market the new hotel, said: “The opening was a phenomenal success. Our open weekend attracted 350 people.” The visitors, who shared snacks and wine at the 11-bedroom luxuriously outfitted building, included representatives from local firms, such as Oxley Developments and Expro Tronic, looking at possible facilities for visitors to their firms. David Stoller, boss of Stollers Furniture World, was another guest.
The hotel which takes its first paying customers this Thursday, will also feature a restaurant with views of Morecambe Bay. Local people were among those taking a look around after Mr Arnold personally leafleted all the homes in Bardsea. Mr Liehr, who also owns the Roa Island Hotel, told visitors at the opening: “My love of England took me all round this beautiful country before finally deciding to invest in Cumbria. “Cumbria encapsulates for me the best of English natural beauty, with its beautiful lakes, gentle slopes, rugged mountains, and constant feeling of history, showing its presence in romantic ruins, ancient stone circles and pathways formed over the centuries.”
